“For those of us used to living in a society where the practice of religion is a minority activity, it can be hard to appreciate how often the true roots of conflict, persecution or discrimination overseas lie in the manipulation of complex religious sentiment. Our foreign policy will be severely hampered if we do not develop the understanding of distinctions and nuances between and within different faiths.”

Lord Singh of Wimbledon, Foreword to Article 18: An Orphaned Right

The media has a crucial role to play in bringing about change. But, perhaps as a result of the prevailing secularism of our own culture, it is often difficult to get serious coverage of issues surrounding freedom of religion or belief.

We urge all those who have a voice through any form of media to take every opportunity to underline the significance of freedom of religion or belief, to highlight abuses of this human right and encourage positive action to strengthen the framework of freedom and protect and support those who are suffer because of their faith or belief.
