APPG Statement on the Attack on St. Francis Church Nigeria

The APPG FoRB was appalled to hear of the heinous killing of at least 50 worshipers celebrating Pentecost at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria. We express our deepest condolences for the victims and their friends, families, and community.

We are concerned that a continued escalation of attacks against religious communities highlights failed security efforts in Nigeria, leading to many members of these communities feeling isolated and abandoned.

The APPG FoRB urges the Nigerian Government to make every effort to tackle extremism in Nigeria, and redouble efforts to protect places of worship and vulnerable communities in known hotspots for violence and extremist targeting.
