Parachinar’s Growing Humanitarian Crisis: Urgent Action Needed

At a recent APPG FoRB meeting, experts from various fields came together to highlight the escalating humanitarian crisis in Parachinar. The discussion was moderated by Maryam Anwar from the AlKhoei Foundation, and included distinguished professors, authors, religious scholars, activists, and a human rights defender and lawyer based in Parachinar.

They presented the region’s history, highlight critical issues, and share their perspectives. Julie Jones, APPG Director, concluded the meeting with a call to action, encouraging attendees to raise these concerns with their MPs in Parliament.

The current blockade of the only road providing essential supplies to the region—fuel, food, and medicine—leaves children, the elderly, and vulnerable communities at risk.

While the region has faced tensions between opposing groups in the past, speakers emphasized that the current situation suggests authorities may be failing to recognize the true nature of the issue, how it has evolved into a humanitarian crisis and call for urgent recognition and intervention.

Other key topics discussed included sectarianism, state involvement in land disputes, and counter-terrorism policies. The meeting concluded with a call to action, urging attendees to raise these concerns with their MPs to ensure the crisis receives the attention it urgently needs and currently lacks.
